This is a positive that has remained throughout the numerous patches and season updates, the gameplay is fun.
One of the positives many pointed to at launch is the traditional CoD feel of Cold War. Meanwhile, the addition of new weapons provides a near-constant objective to gameplay, there’s always something new to be in pursuit of. Outbreak in particular has completely revamped zombies, providing a fresh alternative to the classic mode we all know and love.
The introduction of these weapons and modes adds to the sense of diversity in choice, leaving each playing session feeling unique. Unlike in past Call of Duty’s, these can be unlocked in-game by completing a set challenge. As for weapons, a number have been released in season updates, the most notable thus far being a crossbow the ‘The R1 Shadowhunter’. There has also been an addition to Zombies with all-new mode ‘Outbreak’. Amongst these new game modes are Call of Duty classics such as Gun Game and Prop Hunt, while modes like Stockpile and Dropkick make their debut. The devs have also released content in other forms, namely new game modes and weapons. To me, it no longer feels like I’m constantly replaying the same maps over and over again, in fact, a week into my return to the game, I was yet to come across a handful of maps in matchmaking. There are now 13 Core, 4 Fireteam, and 5 Gunfight maps, giving the game a new lease of life and a reason for old players to return. Since launch, it can’t be denied that the developers have put work into fleshing out this game. When compared with Modern Warfare’s 10 Core, 7 Gunfight, and 3 Ground War maps, it appears quite the meager offering. The game launched with just eight Core maps and two Fireteam maps. One of the main queries about Cold War at launch was where all of the content was. A Cold War Full of Content Source: Treyarch The question on the minds of many CoD fans who may have skipped this year’s edition will no doubt be whether Cold War is worth buying in 2021, a question to which I look to offer some clarity. While some were happy to see a new entry into the Black Ops series, many were disheartened by the prevalence of bugs, the barebones multiplayer, and the short, albeit intriguing campaign. Black Ops Cold War launched to lukewarm reactions.
